Free Press, or just Propaganda?

Posted by: McCobb Tags: , ,

How many times have we heard the news agency boasting on having “expert” advice that just happens to be from the government sector. It is as if we hear the same propaganda from different sources making it appear as if all these different reporters are accepting it as their story, when in reality it came from the same press debriefing at the White House.

News reporting should be investigative and should embrace opposition. we should witness a debate on our TV’s for and against a subject. We should have reporters willing to look for the facts and present them with out the worry of loosing their careers. They should make us think about the issue and decide for ourselves what is wright and wrong.

I find that Americans are becoming complacent at being told propaganda as if we are afraid of real news. America is based on freedoms that allow us to be different. If we are all afraid to be different who will stand for us when we take our turn at being outside the circle of popular opinion.

Did you know Phil Donahue, who was controversial about the “facts” of the war, was taken off the air because of his opinion? If no one can give any true debate to the “official” report, we should just let the Government run the news agencies. At least then we could see who is really controlling the news.

Quest for Freedom–A Story Of Pure Courage

Posted by: Rasputin Tags: , ,

The Nazis stormed into the house of Stanislavsky Lech, who was Jewish, herded the entire family out at gunpoint, packed them into an overcrowded train, filled with the stench of death and despair, and sent them to Krakow.

Then, before his eyes, Lech saw his entire family shot. Somehow, he managed to live from one day to the next, in a numb, oblivious, zombie-like state. Impatiently, he awaited his own death. But one day, he realized, that his own death was not an unavoidable truth. He could, in fact, do something about it: he could make an attempt to escape.

Once he had made his decision, he didn’t know how to execute it. He only knew one simple thing: his decision was irrevocable, and, somehow, he had to find a way to act on it.

As the weeks passed into months, he interrogated his fellow prisoners. “How can we escape?” he would ask. He became a nuisance, an irritation. “It’s hopeless,” they would echo. “Stop hurting yourself,” they would plead. Some would abuse him openly; others would turn away in silence.

In turn, he rejected their answers, their silences, their overbearing despair. There has to be a way, he told himself, and I will find it. This is my revenge: by surviving I will prove that the Nazis aren’t invincible and that they don’t have complete control of our wills and that they can’t do what they like with us.

A better Bailout

   Posted by: Rasputin Tags: , , , ,

Recently I was talking to a friend about how little good Bush’s bailout and Obama’s economic stimulus bill were doing. My suggestion was to give everyone over 60 two million dollars. I was only half joking. Then my brother in law sent me this via email:

Dear Mr. President:

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America ‘s economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings – Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered – Auto Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage – Housing Crisis fixed.

It can’t get any easier than that! If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their constituents pay their taxes…

Now in principal I heartily agree but unless my math is wrong forty million times one million is forty trillion. I don’t think even the government would spend that much money.  Of course my idea of giving everyone over sixty $2,000,000 isn’t going to work either.

I'm Voting Republican

Don’t be mislead by the Democrats with their liberal ideas about peace, justice and freedom. We don’t need those things. Here’s why I’m voting Republican:

George Carlin dies at 71

   Posted by: Rasputin

George Carlin died yesterday around 6:00 pm (PST) at St. John’s Hospital, Santa Monica after being admitted for chest pain. It’s always sad when someone as brilliant and insightful as George Carlin passes.

Just five days ago Carlin was notified he was this years recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

“In his lengthy career as a comedian, writer, and actor, George Carlin has not only made us laugh, but he makes us think,” Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen Schwarzmann said in the announcement of the award. “His influence on the next generation of comics has been far-reaching.”

Carlin is reported to have replied, “Thank you Mr. Twain, Have your people call my people.”

Here’s one of my favorite Carlin routines – it’s hard to pick one as he has so many but this set is still so spot on. Carlin’s humor is timeless, as this video proves. I do have to warn you the language is uncensored, if that offends you don’t watch.
