Ever seen the advertisement,
“ American Express Travelers check, they are same as cash”.

I would like to warn those travelers thinking of using this product. I have been traveling as many of you are about to do, and thought it would be a bad idea to carry cash. I went to the bank and gave them my cash and for a fee they gave me back travelers check. They told me it was same as cash.

I soon was thirteen hours from home, with no cash, only these damn checks. I started trying to spend them, and was surprised that most of the cashers were so young they had never heard them. I was placed in very embarrassing spot not having any cash and the managers not wanting to accept “checks”. They told me they do not cash checks.

I was turned down time after time. I called to complain to American Express, but they told me the stores did not half to take them. Wow! They tell us they are the same as cash but hear in the real world, most people look at them as checks and they won’t cash them.

So next time you want to be safe and not carry cash and you think you will purchase some travelers checks, DON’T!!! You may find yourself with no way to pay for your gas or food and no place to turn for help in some place far from your bank and far from home.

Maybe their add should say,
“ American Express travelers Checks, they may spend like cash, but don’t count on it!”
